It seems that in today’s world, once we’ve taken care of our children and they’ve moved out of the house, we have to care for our parents. During all the time our kids spent growing up, our parents were aging. Caring for aging parents isn’t exactly an easy task, physically or emotionally. How can you ensure that your aging parents are well taken care of? By hiring help; here are three services to help us care for our parents.
In-home Care
In-home care is probably what most of us think of when thinking about senior care. Most likely, that’s because it’s one of the most common types of care for aging loved ones. In its most basic form, in-home care sends a caretaker to our parents’ home who then helps them with daily tasks. Household chores like vacuuming, laundry, pet care, and meal preparation no longer have to be a struggle for our mother or father. In-home caretakers keep our parents healthy, safe, and well cared for by simply helping them around the house.
Companion Care
As it turns out, one of the most beneficial things to senior’s health is to stay socially active. However much our parents would like to spend time with us and their grandkids, we just can’t be there all of the time. Through companion care, our moms and dads receive so much needed socializing. Companion care is a person who is hired to spend time with our parents. The time they spend isn’t just doing household chores but really socializing by playing games, listening to and telling stories, doing puzzles, and helping connect our parents to family through social media. In essence, companion care gives our parents a full-time caring friend during the times we can’t be there.
Respite Care
Even without a job, having kids in the home, a social life, and everything else caring for our parents is a tremendous task. However, some of us still choose to be the primary caretaker for our parents. Yet, as much as we may enjoy and want to care for our parents, we simply can’t do it all of the time. Respite care is our opportunity to take a break. Through respite care, a professional caretaker temporarily takes over our responsibility of caring for our parents. During that two hours, three days, or one week, we’re free to rest and take care of our own lives.
