Tips on Outsourcing your Business

Outsourcing used to be looked at as a strategy reserved for big business. Most clothing brands outsource their manufacturing for cost reasons but large companies also know the value of time and how they can make the most of it. Outsourcing as a process in this day and age has become accessible to more businesses and freelancers through the wonders of the internet. It doesn’t need to be an expensive endeavour and neither is it just for businesses with deep pockets.
What can you outsource? Think of a task that needs doing in your business. There is a good chance you can outsource it. From having your telephone calls answered and your mail dealt with by a virtual receptionist to having a personal assistant read and reply to emails. But surely tasks such as emails require a personal touch? Yes and no. The email inbox often takes up more time than it deserves. Out of the last 100 emails you received how many of them actually required your specific attention? Employing a virtual assistant to apply some strict rules to your email account could mean you only ever have to read and respond to emails that require your direct intervention. Emails can eat into time in a number of ways. The Groupon ad that steals your attention for a minute can lead to a Google search about a deal and before you know it you’ve lost 10 minutes.
Depending on the industry you’re in you could skip some of the more laborious steps of a job by outsourcing. If you’re a web developer you could outsource the coding to a third party to allow you more time to test and measure a site. If you run a flower shop you could outsource your reception and your bookkeeping to leave you time to work on new arrangement ideas.
There are many upsides to outsourcing, the main one being less time spent on tasks that need doing but don’t require you to do them. In some cases outsourcing can make sense as the preferred option. If you are starting out in business without premises or a lot of funding a virtual office could help your business look bigger than it is while keeping you away from unnecessary calls.
Of course there are downsides to outsourcing and I wouldn’t expect you to believe otherwise. The great thing about doing something yourself is that it gets done the way you want it. So other than the cost of the outsourcing services you opt for there is the quality of the service to consider. Testimonials from independent review sites are a good way to start to assess the services available but you may need to test a few different services to find the right fit for you. While you may spend some time in the beginning finding and setting up an outsourcing process it has the possibility to save you time in the long run.
There are lots of ways to successfully free up time and save money for your business. Outsourcing receptionist services is just one of them.
