In recent years the increase in the amount of parents who have decided to home school their children has risen dramatically. There are many reasons for this lack of confidence in the public education system, religious reasons, and social environment to name a few. But when it comes to homeschooling it causes great debate on whether it is the right choice for everyone, are the parents qualified to teach to their children, can the children handle the different social environment that comes with it, and do they parents have the time to dedicate to teaching their children at home.
One of the biggest debates when dealing with homeschooling your children is the social impact that it would have on your children. Detractors will state that teaching your children at home will stunt their social growth and make it more difficult for them to grow socially. Children who attend a public school do have more day to day interaction with other children their own age. Nowadays with homeschooling surging there are many groups and communities that offer support and help for families that want to teach at home. Many of these groups also have many activities that bring other homeschooled children together for field trips, and other group activities. So with all the changes and more support groups as well as technological instruments to make it easier to communicate with other homeschoolers the social impact if there was any is now almost completely gone.
Parents who want to home school their children need to look into their state laws to find out what the state requirements are and what other qualifications that need to be met. Again with the technology today and the increase in support groups it easier than ever to find an appropriate curriculum that fits your needs. This will help parents who may struggle to find information and help with learning how to teach their children the way they want to and ease the transition into a homeschooling parent.
With the separation of church and state religious views has become one of the main reasons that many parents decide to teach their children at home. This is understandable to have the ability to teach your children your own religious and moral values without interference from the school system. There is an incredible amount of Christian home school groups that have curriculum and supplies dedicated to Christian homeschooling and all that goes with it.
While homeschooling might not be for everyone, there are time commitments and financial responsibilities that not everyone can fulfill. It can be a viable solution for many families that want to become closer and make sure their children learn the morals and beliefs that they believe in.
