It is the goal of any website of the internet to get traffic to the site and be visible. How can you get hits and a flow of traffic to your web page? If you are putting up a page for general interest without traffic then it would be useless. The internet is not when you build your site, visitors will automatically come. There is around 8 billion pages in Google that are indexed on the net and its growing every minute. How then do we change the game so internet users can at least appreciate the work put into a website, and visit and avail of the products and services offered on that site? This is because of the myriads of competitors you will not even make it to the top pages unless you have it optimized for search engines. However, it is possible still to create a niche website and get rated in the first page. In short, one of the first methods of traffic generation is to have a site geared to keywords and content that will draw in search engine traffic. Some businesses specialise in generating rich content and links from other like rich content site targetted to high rating keywords and charge big money for the privilege. This is because free traffic to websites from search engines means big chance for profits.

Adwords and the like

Yahoo, Google, etc sell advertising space. Why do people choose this method? It is because it brings targetted traffic to your site. The advantage of targetted traffic is that these people are looking for your exact topic and thus more likely to stay on your site and this results in higher conversion rates. Google will lower your cost per click and even raise you in the list if more people are clicking through. They do this to reward you for having a relevant site and for having a great ad that people want to click on. Advantage of this method is you are guaranteed traffic. There are,however, businesses that survive on google adwords for advertising and make very good turnover. But once again the greater demand for the keyword, the greater the number of competitors there are. Limit your target audience to a particular country, region or city to cut this advantage. Not much point in advertising your english content site in Zimbabwe, firstly because not many people there speak english, but secondly because not many have internet access either. If your paying money for advertising on the internet make sure you are reaching the right audience for your advertisements.

Another way to generate hits to your site is to join a lot of surfing programs. Surfing programs help you generate traffic. Keep the ad or website display very basic and build a downline and contact list from surfing programs. You need to grab the users interest within 15 seconds. One distinct advantage of most of these programs though is if you build a downline with them the amount of free traffic you get increases. Banners exchanges are an example of this.

Term Methods that are Longer

These methods require more work on your part but in return they can result in great traffic results. Make sure to have content rich and quality articles in your site to have a constant stream of traffic through attached links. Another long term method is to contact and link to other similar sites. Create your own site and link them to one another by requesting other webmaster to do this. Create an optin email list and encourage people from your list to visit your site is another method you can use. Creating a blog like this doesn't hurt either. In conclusion, I don't recommend any method over any other. On the whole though I don't think you can go wrong if you do all the above methods as a holistic internet campaign. Your internet presence will increase as well as your web traffic if you do this consistently.
